Loveland Duren Release New Single & Video From Upcoming Album
Pandemic. Election year. Families and friends dealing with loss and separation in ways never dreamed of. In the midst of this chaos lands a new song from Memphis recording artists Vicki Loveland and Van Duren, “Within Crying Distance.”
The tracks for the second single from the duo’s upcoming album, Any Such Thing, were recorded in the Bluff City at Ardent and at Royal Studios, then mixed at Scott Bomar’s downtown Electrophonic Studios with veteran engineer Adam Hill at the console. The cast of players include Ian Duren (drums) and Adam Holton (bass) along with Van on guitars and UK powerhouse pianist Liam Grundy. One overdub session at Royal (engineered by Boo Mitchell himself) added the legendary Reverend Charles Hodges on Hammond B3 organ. The session concluded with Vicki Loveland’s stunning lead vocal, a high mark in her long and brilliant career.
The companion video for “Within Crying Distance” was conceived, filmed, and edited by veteran cinematographer/director Kim Bledsoe Lloyd and features Vicki and Van, the River, and actor Thais Lloyd. The visuals are especially poignant and moving in these times when millions of human beings are seriously adrift, swept along, as if by that river. Video Link:

Any Such Thing will be released on vinyl and digital platforms in early 2021, and it features all new original Loveland Duren songs that run the length of emotions, front to back. Until then, “Within Crying Distance” opens a window into where we all are. And what’s to come.
